Bolsonaro detained after being deemed a flight risk

The former Brazilian leader has been arrested after authorities concluded he posed a definite escape threat while under domestic detention.

The one-time leader was found guilty of orchestrating a government overthrow in September and given more than a 27-year term in incarceration, but he was staying under house arrest pending court reviews.

High Court Judge the presiding justice said the action to imprison the elderly politician was a safety action after "new facts" emerged.

This encompassed trying to remove his electronic bracelet and a call for a public vigil that could "allow for a possible escape.
