Both Deceased Students Named in the Ivy League School Incident as Police Press On With Search for Gunman.

Both young individuals who were killed in Saturday’s mass shooting at Brown University were honored at the start of the week – as a manhunt for their killer continued following the freeing by authorities in Rhode Island of the sole person of interest in the case.

Remembering Ella Cook

The young woman Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was remembered as “an incredible, grounded, faithful, bright light”, as stated by the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which paid tribute to her at a gathering on Sunday.

Her role included the vice-presidency of Brown’s chapter of the College Republicans organization, according to the organization. The White House press secretary also expressed condolences on social media, remarking: “It's indescribable. Thinking of her family and friends, especially her parents.”

MukhammadAziz Umurzokov

The other deceased individual was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, from Uzbekistan in his freshman year at the Ivy League university, family members said.

Umurzokov’s identity was verified by the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. His ambitions were lofty of becoming a neurosurgeon and helping people,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a online post.

Details of the Attack

Nine other people were wounded in the weekend shooting in the engineering department of Brown’s university in Providence, during the school’s final exam period.

Officials stated on Sunday evening that a man aged 24 taken into custody in a raid at a Hampton Inn about around 27 kilometers from the university earlier in the day was released from custody.

“We have a murderer out there,” said Rhode Island’s attorney general, Peter Neronha.

He added, “Occasionally a probe goes down a path, and then you need to change course and go in another, and that is the current situation over the last 24 hours or so.”

Ongoing Concerns

Providence’s mayor, Brett Smiley, admitted: “We know that this is likely to cause fresh anxiety for our city”.
