Ex- Physician Faces Assault Charges Involving 38 Patients

Legal authorities have announced that a former physician stands accused of carrying out sexual assaults against thirty-eight individuals who were patients.

Details of the Serious Charges

The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham has been charged with numerous sexual offences – some of which involve acts against minors under the age of thirteen – between 2017 and 2021.

One deputy chief CPS official stated, “Legal teams have diligently worked to support a thorough and intricate police inquiry, carefully reviewing the evidence to determine that there is a strong case to bring the case to trial and that it is in the public interest.”

Scope of the Investigation

The charges follow what police called a “detailed inquiry” into alleged assaults at two hospitals: a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and Russells Hall hospital.

Spencer is scheduled to appear at the local magistrates' court on January 20th.

Breakdown of Charges

Prosecutors outline the 45 sexual offences he is charged with:

  • 15 counts of assault.
  • 17 counts of penetrative assault.
  • Nine counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • 3 counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
  • One count of attempted penetrative assault.
