Ideally, they'd want an contest for the urn in Australia where they still have a chance to reclaim the urn once the opening games are done.

Unfortunately, this scenario is off the table this time, though, after a comprehensive 82-run win in Adelaide gave Australia 3-0 up for the fourth consecutive series on their own soil.

The loyal traveling fans, the organized fan base, have a large group traveling for the final two Tests in Sydney and Melbourne.

There are also travel parties who will be vacationing down under, as well as families and friends embarking on a once-in-a-lifetime trip.

Fans with Booked Tickets

Four fans named Alex, Sam, Rory and Katie are four such fans.

Alex, Sam, Rory and Katie had their itineraries and entry credentials secured for the fourth and fifth Tests "a full year in advance", anticipating a rare England series success.

Instead, they have watched Australia outplay the visitors in just under two weeks from their residence in Penwortham, Lancashire.

"Everyone at work has been giving me grief regarding the concluded contest for the last two weeks," said Sam.

"We always thought that we would have a meaningful contest still when we got there."

Lowered Expectations

Optimism was high regarding the team's prospects of breaking a 15-year drought for a victory down under before it began.

However, the situation is now facing the prospect of extending their winless run in the country to 19 matches when the Boxing Day Test begins in Melbourne this week.

The England team - and their followers - will be hoping to sidestep a clean sweep.

One sibling noted the "excitement and fun" of head coach the aggressive 'Bazball' approach in recent years had "brought fresh energy to" Test cricket for English supporters.

Yet the fans said they had realistic outlooks for the remaining matches - and all they are hoping for from the players is "some resilience".

"All analysts references this, but it all hinges on fortitude. 'The aggressive approach has been turned into a buzzword now that is just, like, unrealistic play," stated Rory Ryding.

"Over the course of five days, you should dig in. Chasing balls 'sixth stump' areas has never been in the coaching manuals, and that is primarily due to the batting lineup."

Looking Ahead

When questioned if he believed England will triumph in a Test in the current series, came the reply: "It appears the Australians are superior right now."

"There is going to have to be more than one player that stands up for England and produces a match-winning display."

Even with the series lost, the group remains excited about the trip.

"We are going to have a great time nonetheless," said Katie. "We have to go with that attitude."

"Obviously it is disappointing we can't contest the series, but we have spent so much money by now."

"We plan to savor having Christmas and New Year out there. It is also our first experience abroad during the festive period."

A teacher, Katie is intent on maximizing the 21,000-mile round-trip as part of her seasonal break.

"Should the cricket disappoint, I can play golf to rely on," she finished.
