Israelis have gathered around the country to commemorate 24 months since the Hamas-conducted offensive on October 7th, 2023, as talks proceeded in the neighboring country over a resolution to the hostilities in the Gaza Strip.
The assault led to more than 1,200 people dead and 251 others taken away to Gaza as prisoners. It was the single most lethal day for Jewish people since the Holocaust.
Israel responded by launching a defensive operation in Gaza which has claimed more than 67,000 people, based on figures from the region's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its figures are considered trustworthy by the United Nations and other global organizations.
"Our bloodthirsty adversaries have caused great damage, but they have not defeated us," the leader stated on Tuesday.
He also pledged to "realize all the objectives of the war: the return of all the kidnapped, the elimination of the Hamas regime and the guarantee that Gaza will never again pose a threat to Israel".
The government authorities postponed formal memorials until 16 October - after the end of the Jewish High Holiday season - but gatherings still occurred around the country on Tuesday.
A memorial ceremony for the loved ones of people who lost their lives in the Hamas attack was organized in Tel Aviv. Put together by the affected families, it was broadcast on Israeli television channels.
Hours earlier, a minute's silence was observed across the country.
At the same time, both sides' representatives convened in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of the negotiation venue for a continuing round of mediated discussions to discuss the provisions of the plan.
A high-ranking Palestinian official knowledgeable about the negotiations revealed that an night meeting of indirect talks started at 7 PM local time.
The representative said the day's discussions concluded without concrete outcomes, because of conflicting views over the recommended Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over assurances Hamas seeks to guarantee Israel does not resume fighting after the initial stage of the arrangement.
He added that the negotiations are "challenging and have yet to produce any major advancement," but mentioned that intermediaries are striving to narrow the disparities between the two sides.
In the city's memorial area previously, young Hagar - whose sibling survived the attack on the Nova music festival, where hundreds were murdered and numerous more were taken hostage by Hamas gunmen - explained: "Nowhere appears as home anymore and until each abducted person come back no one will have peace of mind."
"When we see all home again, we can breathe anew. Then we can start to recover," she added.
Near the prime minister's residence in Jerusalem, people congregated to demonstrate their solidarity for the loved ones of the captives. Israel says forty-eight stay in detention in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are believed to be living.
Demonstrator a participant remarked: "It's necessary do whatever arrangement required for the captives to come back home. But we really want promises that we will be protected."
Surveys now consistently show that approximately the majority of the population prefer the hostilities to finish in as payment for the release of the abducted.
At the area of the music event, those paying respects gathered to remember the victims.
From the site, the boom of aerial bombardments and shelling could be noticed just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where local people said the severe Israeli attacks continued.
In Gaza City, attacks were reported in the dawn of Tuesday in the west side Tal al-Hawa, area and Nasr districts and in the east side neighbourhood of the community, as well Shati refugee camp to the north-west.
"When the dusk comes, the anxiety arrives with it," relocated Gaza City resident a local woman, whose young son was killed by an Israeli bombing last year, shared.
"My family are afraid of the air strikes. All the night we are resting together, embracing, notably my little child who places his face on me all night."
"Every second we look at the reports to see developments. And I'm concerned that this truce will not be finalized and that the conflict will resume to us."
The medical facility in the urban area said it had taken in the remains of half dozen people by the midday, including several killed in an Israeli strike in the southern area.
A different healthcare center in the southern city of that area indicated another two fatalities had been brought there. An individual was died by Israeli troops while looking for assistance to the south region, medics said.
