Jets head coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and feels certain the player will recover well after being shot in central New York early Sunday morning.
Glenn described that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was āin good spiritsā during their recent conversation.
āWhat reassures me, is that heās feeling positive,ā Glenn commented. āHis wife and child, they are holding up and he will come through this without issue.ā
Glenn was unsure when Boyd might be released the hospital, where he is reported as in critical but steady condition.
āDonāt know just yet,ā the coach said. āHowever, I can share, just talking to him, his attitude was encouraging. Furthermore, that puts my mind at ease, that he feels like that and his words reflect that optimism.ā
NYPD released security footage earlier this week of a man sought in the shooting of Boyd. The reason behind the incident is still being looked into and police mentioned it is unknown if Boyd was targeted. No one else was hurt were reported.
The attack took place in the early morning on Sunday morning in the area between MSG and the iconic square. Boyd, 29, was taken to a local hospital after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, according to authorities. The perpetrator got away.
Glenn said Boyd has been on his mind āa tonā since he heard about the shooting. He further stated that Boyd and his wife are new parents to a baby.
āThe first thing I thought about, he has a new baby,ā Glenn noted. āI thought of his spouse, Iām thinking about his kid and I want to make sure that heās OK. That was my main concern.
āA certain process is underway, Iāll keep private, but Iām happy at the fact that he will recover excellently.ā
Boyd hasnāt played in the present campaign, his first with the Jets, after his season was cut short due to injury on mid-August with a shoulder issue that involved surgical repair.
He joined the Jets as a free agent in March and was expected to be a significant contributor of an improved special teams group under the coach and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during preseason drills on August 2 and was carted from the field.
Boyd has remained around the team all season long while healing from his surgery.
āHeās been a part of what weāre doing,ā Glenn stated. āIn fact, he attends every game. Heās fully engaged. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.ā
Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, began his career with the Vikings after his selection in the later rounds by the Vikings out of Texas University in 2019. He joined the Arizona Cardinals in last year and then joined Houstonās practice squad later that season. Boyd inked a single-season agreement for $1.6 million with New York in the spring.
