Pat Bamford Joins Sheffield United Despite Initiating Abusive Chants Targeting Manager Wilder

Patrick Bamford is now a member of the Championship side just seven months following instigating disrespectful taunts directed at the team's coach, Wilder.

This experienced forward, without a club since leaving Leeds United, has signed a agreement with the Championship strugglers through the winter. His seven-year spell at Elland Road finished by mutual consent this past summer.

One of Bamford’s last memorable actions while at Leeds was to lead abusive chants regarding Wilder during Leeds' promotion party in April. Currently, the one-cap England player is set to play for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss looks to lift the team he loves out of the bottom places.

Past History Involving Bamford & the Manager

Both men had a past before Leeds won promotion to the top flight the previous campaign and United lost the playoff final by Sunderland. The manager described Bamford as a "muppet" back when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and Sheffield United secured direct promotion whereas Leeds fell short in the promotion playoffs.

Making Amends & Moving Forward

All appears to have been put behind them with Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, urgently requiring of improvement up front while Bamford aiming to rejuvenate his playing days.

The song about Wilder spread widely this spring. An apologetic Patrick and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the following day.

Chris Wilder said back then: “Spoke with Pat yesterday and I have no problem at all with it. I’m not sure about the language from a fellow professional! But I appreciated and respected him calling me.

“We spent 20 minutes and similarly I talked with Daniel Farke as well and we had a longer discussion with him and he's a great person, a top guy. When I was playing we would dish it out and take it and that’s part and parcel of the game across all levels, even on Sunday league. I have no problem at all. I am cool with the situation and I told him that to Patrick.”

Recent Playing Challenges

The forward featured in 18 appearances with Leeds United in the previous campaign however the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC and Boro striker has struggled with fitness issues in recent years.
