Slot Offers No Excuses and Pledges to Plot Route From Slump

Liverpool's head coach declared he needed to “examine my own performance” following the Reds suffered a 6th loss in 7 English top-flight matches on their own turf against Forest and insisted he would discover a way out of the title holders' poor run.

Forest, in the relegation zone before kick off, produced the largest win at Liverpool's stadium in their history as Liverpool slipped to an 8th loss in eleven fixtures in all competitions. The most expensive domestic acquisition, Alexander Isak, was once more unnoticeable and the home side argued the defender's opener should have been disallowed for similar reasons to the captain's chalked-off goal against City prior to the international break. But Slot admitted the buck stopped with him and offered no alibis.

“No one wants to listen to me now speaking about officiating calls if you are defeated 3-0 at home to Forest,” said the Liverpool head coach. “I ought to look at my own role first and my squad, but it does show you how a score can change the flow of a match. Before I was just hoping for us to score a goal. Afterwards we hardly created anything.

“Of course there is a path forward, especially with the talented players we have. No matter if you win or are beaten when you look back you are always considering: ‘In which areas can we improve, where can we adjust?’ but that is different from questioning yourself.

“I want to stress I am accountable for the current defeats. You are answerable when you are winning but also responsible when you are defeated. I can never provide sufficient excuses for us to have the outcomes we have. That is far from acceptable and I am responsible for that.”

The team's display fell apart as Slot introduced several attacking changes when chasing the match. “It was the same away at Forest last season,” he remarked. “I took Ibou [Ibrahima Konaté] out and put on [Diogo] Jota and he scored straight away to equalize at 1-1. Then it was brave, now it’s probably stupid.”

The Anfield side previously were defeated in back-to-back home Premier League fixtures against Nottingham Forest in 1963. The last time they suffered consecutive league games by a three-goal margin was in the mid-60s.

Slot said: “It was very bad. Competing on home soil, conceding 3-0 regardless of which opponent you face is a very, very bad result. Surprising if you look at the opening 30 minutes of the match. I haven’t seen us producing so much in the opening 30 minutes perhaps the whole season, and the initial occasion they entered in our penalty area they found the back of the net.

“It did not happen against Manchester City, but in every other fixture we have been the dominant side and were able to generate chances. Recently it is almost consistently that we miss our opportunities and the ones we allow find the net.”
