The visionary game developer, the mind behind the wildly popular first-person shooter Call of Duty, has tragically died in a vehicle crash in Los Angeles, California he was 55 years old.

The tragic news was announced by Electronic Arts, which owns Respawn Entertainment, the development studio that he helped create.

The influential game designer died after his vehicle was involved in a crash and burst into flames on a freeway in Los Angeles on Sunday morning, US media outlets report.

"This is a heartbreaking loss, and our deepest sympathies go to his family and friends, his loved ones, and all those touched by his legacy," a representative from Electronic Arts said.
