The network's Leading New Show of 2025 Earns a Significant Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.

Last October, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, later that same month, the channel unveiled a fresh animated series with a strikingly different vibe. Haha, You Clowns was gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. At a time often marked by cynicism, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and propelled it a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the world of the Campbell family. The show follows three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four main characters.

"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Network Praise

The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and championed its distinctly quirky appeal.

"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something surprisingly comfy about watching this endearing family go about their daily lives.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing layer of irony. He attributed this trend to various cultural shifts.

ā€œIt feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,ā€ explained Cappa. ā€œIt feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we must laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.ā€

The Path Forward

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that comedic shift. Or at the very least, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
