The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for United

Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Munich was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major boost to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
