The second-hand marketplace Users Share Anger About Size Modifications

Members of the platform have expressed outrage following a change that caused items being listed as the wrong size.

This online marketplace has updated its measurement guidelines for women's and children's clothes without notifying every member regarding the update.

Online Platforms Response

Countless users and merchants are expressing on platforms saying Vinted listings now show a different size category compared to what was initially listed as a result of the reclassification.

The company said the new system was more in line with comparable marketplaces.

It has advised users to check their listings and update the measurements by hand if necessary, causing user dissatisfaction.

Sizing System Changes

Before the change, the measurements included a single numeric size and a letter, like S/8 or M/10.

The revised method features a letter with a size spectrum like S/UK 8-10.

For certain items, the sizing has been recategorised - like an L measurement used to be a 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.

Shopper Experiences

One content creator, who produces content about larger sizing, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".

"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," as the platform currently indicates.

Another user, from Glasgow, stated items she posted on Vinted with size 14 labels were showing in the marketplace as measurements 20-22.

"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they may become frustrated," she explained.

Manual Updates

A different user, located in England, explained she became annoyed because the modification necessitated personal updates the measurements for "each individual item".

"For me this is particularly frustrating, since I have chronic health issues and Vinted sales have been crucial for me since losing part of my income," she explained.

Service Background

The service features exceeding 100 million shoppers, including 18 million in the UK.

It has become a favored option versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.

This isn't the first time where an unanticipated change within the service has received backlash: last year, the service retracted a modification concerning shipment methods due to shopper criticism.
