This Swine Life: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Leader.

It might not have been at the same level as sparing holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a new presidential term.

“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life free from concern.”

The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The animal, provided by a local firefighter, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people yelling “6-7” – deriving from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently named “six-seven” its top term for the year.

A New Life

The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.

“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to begin the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.

“It embodies the character of Miami: happy, varied, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Annually, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and cafecito as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
