UN:Me: An Psychological Thriller Merging Silent Hill with Among Us Mechanics

The recent Day of the Devs digital showcase unveiled several intriguing upcoming titles, but one especially has seized attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player adventure appears to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction heart of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive experience where a young woman harboring several personalities within her needs to flee from a labyrinth of the psyche," explains developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Mind

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed heroine seeming to be of high school age. Inside her exist four distinct personas, all possessing their own fears and motivations. These entities can seize control at will, unleashing their innermost terrors upon her suddenly.

Judging by showcased gameplay, much of the narrative unfolds within a creepy hospital, while additional clips show the main character exploring a abandoned church.

A World of Personal Dread

"What are you fearful of? What makes you uncomfortable?" asks game director Shun Sasaki. "High places. Small rooms. Authority figures. Elements that seem trivial to other people can trigger something primal within us. This game delves into that concept — anxieties that are unique to each person."

The central gameplay loop involves controlling the persona that surfaces at any given moment. However, these identities will switch involuntarily as you play. During exploration, every persona's fears become amplified and assault the protagonist one after another. When the soul shifts, so does the particular terror the player encounters.

Eerie Visuals and a Deadly Decision

At first glance, UN:Me shares striking visual similarities with the Silent Hill series. The hospital is populated by nurses all sporting the same face, with unnervingly wide smiles. Patients in the waiting room have large flowers where their necks are. Floral motifs are a recurring element, juxtaposing organic elegance with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me presents a singular mechanic. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls inhabiting the protagonist is the "real" one. "Each of the personas asserts that the physical form is rightfully them," explains a developer. "During the game, you need to figure out who is real."

Once players have deduced a persona is fake, they must eliminate it. However, because every entity can deceive or hide the truth, it is very easy to make a mistake.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the real [soul] with your own hands," a voice states. "The last one standing might be a fraud. Either way, your decisions are irreversible."

UN:Me currently lacks a publicly announced launch window, but it is can be follow on platforms.
